Kangra fort: One of the oldest dated forts for India. Also known as the Nagarkot fort of Bhim Kot (for its strength). It’s antiquity dates back to the vedic period, but historically it has been mentioned by the Greek scribes in Alexander’s war records. The Golden age of the Kangra Kingdom began with Maharajah Sansar Chand Katoch, who at the age of 16 recaptured the fort from the Mughals. He was also the patron of the famous Kangra School of Miniature paintings.

Sujanpur Tira – 80 Km from Kangra. This town has the old palaces of Maharaja Sansar Chand Katoch. The old monuments and temples there have interesting Kangra miniature wall paintings and frescoes.

Other places worth visiting

Palampur, Baijnath, Masroor, Andretta, Tea Gardens, Pong Lake, Barot, Triveni (on the river Beas) and Pong Dam are places for fishing. Some of the known treks are Triund, Kareri and Dharamkot.
