Horse Safari

A 2 to 6 days horse safari riding through the wooded hills of the Aravalis or towards the desert region of Jodhpur is a wonderful way to see rural Rajasthan, accompanied by a Syce and Thakur (local landowner), most days will involve 4 to 6 hours riding and overnight in Comfortable Camps or local Landowners’ Forts and Homes (full board).

Suitable for small groups between 2 to 12 persons.

Rajasthan – the land of the Rajputs, is known for its kings, fearless warriors and beautiful women. It’s also known for its forts, palaces, and temples which are a reminder of the glorious past. Kingdoms were carved and established by the Rajputs on horseback, while swords were stained with enemy blood. Horses were highly priced and a Rajput warrior would give anything to own a good horse. Great care was taken to breed horses and to keep a clean and pure lineage. The result of many years of dedication and hard work helped create breeds like the Marwari, Kathiawadi and the Sindhi, each having its own distinct characteristics and bred solely for the purpose of war. These horses were noted for their stamina and fierce loyalty to their masters. With these gallant steeds, the Rajputs became famous worldwide. There is an old saying:
“If God didn’t create the horse, He wouldn’t have created the Rajputs”
In Rajasthan, you can have the pleasure of riding through trails dotted and marked with cenotaphs and tombstones of many brave and valiant Rajput warriors. Trails which take them through villages, past huge and ancient forts and temples. Nights can be spent in ancient palaces and Garhs (small forts) now owned by the descendants of those glorious Rajput rulers. These palaces not only provide modern amenities but cultural programmes and entertainment is also available. Evenings are spent at camp sites which are splashed with colour in the form of local folk dance and music. These safaris will be escorted by an English speaking Trail Guide.

A horse safari can be arranged which could include the famous cattle and camel fair, the night of the full moon October/November where more than 200,000 people and 50,000 camels, horses and cattle gather.

Camel Safari and the painted villages of the Shekawati Region…

Bordered by Delhi, Bikaner and Jaipur, the Shekawati in an area of semi desert, contains many grand and beautifully frescoed homes or Havelis of the Marwaris, the successful business class of India. Many of these 19th and 20th century Havelis can be visited and a few have been converted into hotels.

A 4 day Camel Safari, accompanied by a local landlord well versed in the flora and fauna and sleeping out in Comfortable Camps, set up daily, gives a wonderful experience of rural desert Rajasthani life. Each day is leisurely with plenty of time to visit villages, search for wild flowers and game.

Day 1
From Delhi driven to Mandawa.

(Shekhawati area) to stay at The Desert Resort. The mystery and romance of the desert are captured in the unusual architecture of this resort. Recreated in the style of a typical Rajasthani village, The Desert Resort is a verdant oasis in the midst of a stark desert landscape.

Day 2
In the morning ~ Visit the village and Havelis of Mandawa.
In the afternoon, join the Camel Safari.
Stay overnight with the Camel Safari in a Comfortable Camp.

Day 3
Continue with the Camel Safari.
Stay a second night with the Camel Safari in a Comfortable Camp.

Day 4
Continue with the Camel Safari.
Stay a third night with the Camel Safari in a Comfortable Camp.

Day 5
Continue with the Camel safari to the road head, where you will be met by our driver and car.
Driven to Samode Palace, a delightful Palace with grand rooms decorated with fresco, mirrors and semi precious stones.

Stay overnight at Samode Palace.

Day 6
Driven to Jaipur.

End of Tour.
